Evaluation outline part 4
How did you use technology?

I used all type of different technology during my coursework to create my documentary, Radio trailer and print advertisement.
As you can see below the mood bored shows the main source’s of technology I used.
The Main 5 pieces of equipment and technology I used to conduct my documentary is the tri-pod still camera, video camera, clip mic and adobe premiere. With these I was able to capture and edit the documentary.

This is a pictures of the Equipment i used to conduct the interviews and the documentary it's self.

For the print ad I used a camera and adobe Photoshop. Adobe Photo shop is A great source of technology with editing still images. It is easy to use and you come out with great results, thats why are print advert looks professional. We took pictures all the ways through the production and above you can see the camera we used. This is the camera we used to take the pictures for the print advert. Below you can see Adobe Photoshop and the print advertisement.

For the Editing we used Adboe premiere. Adobe Premiere allows you to gather the clips you have filmed and edit them, and makeing it look professional.

Below is a picture of my group editing, an interview from the documentary.

This was the interview with Nicole that was in the documentary and as you can see from the screen grab is that there is two different screens open and one was the original footage and one was the footage we edited to put in the documentary. We would film about 15mins of the interview and only two minutes or less would go into the programme.
Below is a clip from the documentary to show you the outcome of Adobe Premiere:

What have you learned from your Audience Feedback?

Questions for audience feedback!

Documentary

What were your thoughts about beneath the mask?
(Including editing, mise-en-scene and camera work and sound)

Everyone found that the documentary was good and people enjoyed watching it.

Another thing that people like while watching the documentary was the cutaways of make up and the drag queen. People thought that the videos over the answer he was saying was very good and creative because the cutaways fitted in with the answer he was giving to us. The audience also said that it looks professional and that it looks like a documentary that would be shown on channel 4.

Would you watch the full half an hour?
The audience said they would watch the whole programme because it looks interesting and gives good information. Someone also said that it draws people in to watch it because of the interviews and the music and actuality footage.

Was there a specific part of the documentary that you liked?
The interviews were a big success and very affective with the audience, people seen a different side to drag queens and really enjoys find loads of information on make up.

Another part that was successful was the opening titles, everyone the vox pop and the music at the start, was really affective as well.

Do you think it provided good information?

The information we provided was great people said it really made them open there eyes.

Did you think the music fitted in with the Documentary?

The music was one of the best parts people said it fitted in really well.

Do you think we could make any changes to it?

If so what changes would you advise?

The ending so to quick and boring we need to make changes to it.

Print Advert
What are your thoughts about the print advert?

Very good and affective and also shows its about make up with the slogan anchoring it. It is eye catching and affective.

Radio Trailer
What are your opinion on beneath the mask Radio Trailer?

Most people who heard the radio trailer said that the music and clips taken from the documentary make you want to watch it. Also the voice over is well put in over the music and with the ending saying the time and date and channel it is on, that makes it look professional.

Name: Linzi
Age:17

Feedback: “I thought that beneath the mask was a great documentary, because it was informative, and I would watch the whole programme”.

Name: Brad
Age: 20

Feedback: “I think that beneath the mask was very interesting documentary, it was different, to find out that a lot more males wear make up, in this day and age”.

Name: Steph
Age:18

Feedback: “I thought the documentary was very raw, and educational, because it informs the public and the nation about the up rise of males wearing make-up, and the make-up lines that are coming out for just men, I would watch the whole 30 minutes with out a doubt”

Conclusion

I think that the documentary was a big success and reached are target audience. It informed people about the world of make up today, and shows how the world of cosmetics is changing. Most people’s feedback was that they loved the opening titles, the music really fitted the programme well and everyone who gave me audience feedback also enjoyed the interview with the drag queen. The visuals and Archive Material
Worked well and informed people, and the voice over also tired in with the production because, of the young male voice.
The only negative feedback was, the volume level on the ending, that should be turned up when doing our changes and also to put something else in at the end because it cut off to soon, but apart from these negatives the whole production was a success.

How effective is the combination of yourmain product and ancilliary tasks?

How is Coherence created across the package?

Video + Trailer + Print Advert

Title: The title is a strong bold title for the documentary

Channel + Scheduling: Channel 4 is the home to many documentaries and the scheduling is mid week, so no one has to wait till the weekend to watch the documentary.

Voice Over in production + Advert Slogan: The voice are was a young man, which fitted in well because are target audience was teenagers.
And the slogan “Can you face facts” Plays on the word face, what you put make up on and facts as meaning it is supplying you facts.

Extracts from the programme in the trailer and key images in the print advert:
The whole Radio trailer was made up of clips from the documentary, but the images on the image on the print advert was created for just the print advert and not to be shown in the documentary.

Style- Address the audience: Through are audience feedback we found out that it does connect with are target audience, because of the information and the music.

Appeal to the audience (When and where would the trailer be played and the advert placed)
The Radio trailer would be played on all Radio channels, from juice FM to Rock FM, and Radio city because in research it shows that a younger audience listen to these radio stations.
The print advert would be shown on bill boards and in news papers and magazines, because of the shape it can go on bill boards and on the right hand side of newspapers and magazines.

The News papers the Print advert would be shown in are:
The Daily sun
News of the world
Liverpool Echo
Telegraph
Guardian
The production as a whole has came out professional and works as a whole from the Documentary, radio trailer and the print advert. They work togther becasue the radio trailer is clips from the documentary with a voice over so this teasers the audience and the print advert is bold and stand out and makes you want to watch the promgramme.

My print advert has came out looking professional as the one above.
Below is my Radio Trailer and a Radio Trailer for a documentary on channel 4 (Special Needs Pets)

Below is the voice over that went over are documentary.

In what ways does your product use, develop of challenge forms and conventions of real media Product Conventions

In what ways does your product use develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products.

I product that I produced, looks like a professional media product because I followed all the codes and conventions of a documentary, radio trailer and a print advertisement. When researching into doing theses areas, we seen what goes into each product and how areas could have the same results.
The documentary is approximately 4mins 45 secs, but we have about 60 mins of film that went into the process.
We thought about everything when doing the interviews, like the framing when they are on the right hand side of the camera, and the graphics on the left, explaining who the person is, when interviewing them. Others things like cutaways had to be connected to the topic at hand, and when we interview a drag queen we had cutaways like him dancing in a club when talking about his job. The voice over and narration was very important and anchored what the programme was about by talking, and putting it in at the right time with low key volume of the latest music made it look professional and also connected with our target audience.
The editing on the documentary was the hardest part I thought, because you had to think about everything from when the cutaways were put in to which interview to put in at that time. I also emailed the music companies asking if I can use there music in my programme.

Here below is a print screen of the email I sent to the music company Columbia records.

When putting together my interviews I look on YouTube and searched other documentaries to see if mine looked as professional as the ones the public see on TV.

Below is a print screen of an interview of documentary called the falling man and my documentary.

My print advertisement was the same I researched different adverts for documentaries on channel 4 and other documentaries world wide and, when creating the print advert I followed the codes and conventions and by doing this it came out better and for professional. Below you can see my advert and a channel 4 documentary to show how both look professional and creative.

As you can see the writing is in the same place and the channel 4 sign is also in the same place, compared to a professional documentary, I think it looks very well done and looks professional too.

Radio Ad

This is the Radio trailer, we used clips from are documentary to create the radio trailer.

The background music is lady Gaga poker face which is also in the documentary as background music, so there is a connection between the documentary and the radio trailer. Also below is a radio trailer for a real documentary, I have put them both on here to show you how professional our radio trailer is.

Print Ad

The print advertisment was the easy part of the whole production, but we needed it to be a strong image and push the boundries of the mind for people when looking at it. We needed it eye catching and at the start we were coming up with good ideas but nothing that stood out. Then we came up with the idea of a face, half man and half women, this freaky image would represent both sex's that were make-up. Here below is a drawing of the print advert.

When knowing what we were aiming for, we got out models and started the photoshoot, below you can see the two models getting ready.

After getting them ready we started to shoot, we took about 10 pictures for each model and then after shooting we found the pictures we needed.

All we had to do from them was use photoshop to cut there face in half and join each side up, that was the most hardest part because there faces didn't join up like we thought so there was alot of retouching and alot of resizing, that we had to do.

Here are both the pictures we used for the print advert.

Then when putting a background in the bakc of the joining faces, and the channel 4 logo, with the solgan and the day and time the show was one, the print advertisment was done.
Below is the print adveristment for the documentary.
